Season 5 Plot
In season five, Abigail is faced with a new crisis when financial troubles for the town loom. Elizabeth gets an unexpected visit. Ever the dedicated wife to Lee, Rosemary keeps busy at Dottie’s dress shop as she works to make Hope Valley more fashionable. As Elizabeth awaits news of Jack, who has returned to the Northern Territories, she focuses on teaching her students and dreams of the day when Jack comes safely home and they can plan their wedding. Sheriff Bill Avery keeps Hope Valley safe, as well as maintaining a close eye on Gowen, who continues to adjust to his new life as a laborer at Lee’s mill. Doctor Carson Shephard’s skills are put to the test when an unknown sickness sweeps through town, he opens his heart to love again, and takes a risk that could save or take a life of someone he cares for.

Season 5 Episodes
1. Believing
Elizabeth’s sister, Julie, visits Hope Valley in her quest to become a teacher. Lee is made acting Sheriff when Abigail and Bill leave town to testify in Gowen’s trial. Carson has problems with a traveling tonic salesman.
2. Hearts and Minds
Elizabeth mentors Julie, who finds teaching more difficult than she imagined. Abigail has to find a way to convince the railroad to build its depot in Hope Valley.
3. Home Is Where the Heart Is
Jack returns and he and Elizabeth start planning their future. Sparks fly between Carson and a new arrival. Elizabeth teaches her students the difference between facts and speculation, and the town is put on edge when Lee can’t withdraw funds to pay his employees.
4. Open Hearts
Abigail has to figure out how to keep the town’s bank afloat. Elizabeth struggles to understand what troubles one of her young students. Rosemary goes overboard planning Jack and Elizabeth’s wedding.
5. My Heart Is Yours
Jack and Elizabeth’s plan to get married is put in jeopardy and Bill has difficulties transporting a prisoner.
6. Love and Marriage
Jack and Elizabeth’s relationship is put to the test. Pastor Frank and Abigail make a decision about their future. Bill helps a girl solve a mystery.
7. Heart of the Matter
Elizabeth assigns her students to follow business leaders in Hope Valley. Abigail and the town host two possible investors for the failing bank. Bill’s life is disrupted when AJ Foster arrives and turns herself in.
8. Weather the Storm
Bill is put in serious jeopardy while transporting AJ to face trial. Abigail tries to save the town from an investor who will hurt Hope Valley. Carson is faced with a life and death medical decision. Elizabeth tries to reunite a mother and her son.
9. In My Dreams
The widow of Lee's former silent partner arrives and gives Gowen a chance to run a company again. Elizabeth tutors an unexpected new student, and the residents of Hope Valley conspire to pull off a surprise.
10. Close to My Heart
In the 3 weeks since the arrival of devastating news, Hope Valley has come together in love and in a time of sadness.
