A movie title like "The Kindergarten Teacher" makes us expect a comedy or a kids' film, but that's not at all what Netflix is giving us.

The streaming service released a trailer for the drama on Thursday, and it's dark. As we see in the preview, "The Kindergarten Teacher" centers on an educator named Lisa Spinelli (Maggie Gyllenhaal), who starts crossing lines when she discovers that one of her young students has a talent for poetry. In her determination to nurture his genius, she goes too far.

"The Kindergarten Teacher" premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and and will be released on Netflix on Oct. 12.
