Emmys 2015: Who Will Win Outstanding Actor in Drama?

Moviefone
September 10, 2015 - 1 min read

The 2015 Emmy Awards are almost here, so to get you ready Moviefone will be revealing a countdown of editor predictions for the major categories. We're starting with a doozy: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama. Find out who our staff thinks will win, and more importantly, who we think should win.

Who Will Win: Jon Hamm, because it’s time. This is the last year in which Hamm can be nominated for “Mad Man,” since the sartorially perfect series sang its swan song back in May. He’s also been nominated in this category every single season of the show’s existence, and he’s walked away empty-handed every single time – a fact (hopefully) not lost on the of the Television Academy. Who Should Win: Jon Hamm. His Don Draper has been the anchor of “Mad Men” since day one, and the show would be nothing without his brooding, womanizing, chain-smoking antics. He’s played a huge role in making the show as iconic as it is, and helped secure its place in the modern golden age of television. Just give him the effing award; he’s earned it. -Tim Hayne

Who Will Win: Jon Hamm, "Mad Men." There's no Bryan Cranston stopping him this year and he deserves it. He's one of the best TV actors ever playing one of the best TV characters ever on one of the best shows ever. And now it's all over. It's time.  Who Should Win: Jon Hamm, "Mad Men." I'd like to buy the world a... clue. If Hamm doesn't finally get an Emmy we're throwing out our TV and moving to Big Sur to meditate on a cliff.  -Alana Altmann

Who Will Win: Jon Hamm, "Mad Men." The Emmys haven’t been very kind to Hamm over the years — he’s got four nominations and zero wins — so this year our money is on the Television Academy righting that wrong and rewarding Hamm for his work on "Mad Men"'s final, perfect season, and all the prior snubs. Who Should Win: Jon Hamm, "Mad Men." He really deserves it, you guys. And he’s out of chances! Give him a break! -Alexis Taylor

Who Will Win: Jon Hamm, “Mad Men.” The Emmys, like the Oscars, love handing out the legacy award. And if anyone deserves it, it’s Hamm for his career-making role as the booze and vice-fueled master of the sales pitch, Don Draper. The final season may not have been as quality as previous years, but Hamm was consistently that which held the show together — and his performance in the final episode already had us making space on his awards mantle. Just give it to him already, TV Academy. Who Should Win: Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul” Odenkirk effortlessly made the transition from ing player to leading man in this scary-good “Breaking Bad” spinoff, especially during key episodes that emphasized the erosion of trust between Jimmy and his brother and how that would eventually forge the Saul persona “BB” fans have come to love. Jimmy excels at getting in his own way, especially when trying to do the right thing for less-than-selfless reasons — and Odenkirk gives each scene the exact amount of whatever it needs to pay this off. Which means he’ll have more opportunities to prove his award-worthy status in later seasons because his fellow AMC alum (most likely) has this year’s trophy in the bag. -Phil Pirrello

Who Will Win: Jon Hamm. He’s been nominated for "Mad Men" every year since 2008 and it’s about time he’s truly recognized for his brilliance as Don Draper. Who Should Win: Jon Hamm. It would just be wrong if anyone else won. -Rachel Horner
