18 Pieces of 'Back to the Future II' Tech That You Wish You Had

Moviefone
October 14, 2015 - 1 min read

Ever since Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled all the way to October 21, 2015 in "Back to the Future Part II," we've been counting down to that date, eagerly awaiting our own flying cars and hoverboards. Here are 18 pieces of amazing tech from the movie we can't wait to have in real-life.

Cars That Run on Garbage

Doc fuels his DeLorean with garbage, not gas, thanks to his Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor which is, sadly, not available in stores. Yet.

Flying Cars

Dammit! It's 2015 and still no flying cars? Make it happen, future.

Sleep-Inducing Alpha Rhythm Meter

Technically not Future Tech, since Doc invents it in 1985, but this instant-knockout device comes in very handy when he figures Jennifer won't be able to handle the future. Now, this is tech that could do a lot more damage than a Sports Almanac!

Hoverboards

For nearly 30 years, we've asked "Where's my hoverboard?" Sure, we have something called a hoverboard, but it doesn't hover and it isn't really a board. But recent developments indicate that the coolest piece of 2015 tech ever will soon becoming to a store near you. Just don't use them over water.

Power Laces

Sorry folks, you still have to go through the hard labor of lacing up your own Nikes. For now. According to a report this year, Nike is playing to make your power-lacing dreams come true. "Heavy," amirites?!

Self-Fitting and Self-Drying Jacket

We are still waiting on jackets that not only adjust to fit you perfectly, but also come with a built-in dryer should you happen to end up in the town pond.

Telescoping Bat

Today, if you want to intimidate someone with a baseball bat, you can't keep it hidden in your back pocket until it's time to use it. That would certainly bum out bullies like Griff.

Ultra-Accurate Weather

Doc Brown can predict when the rain will stop in 2015 down to the minute, thanks to the ultra-accurate weather forecasts. Our phone apps kinda sorta have a similar function, but we need Doc's super-accurate tech ASAP.

Super Swift Justice

Marty McFly Jr. is tried and jailed in record time, thanks to a future where lawyers have been abolished! Now that's a society that would make Saul Goodman weep.

Robo-Garages

When you have flying cars, you need robo-garages, clearly! Since we have no flying cars...

3D Holographic Ads

We've got dead rappers back on stage as holograms, but no movie ads assaulting us as we walk down the street. As for "Jaws 19" (directed by Max Spielberg), check out this trailer.

Automatic Dogwalkers

A floating device that walks the dog for you? Good thing they don't really exist: It's just the distraction Biff needs to steal the DeLorean! Also rules out any "meet cute" scenarios a la "101 Dalmatians."

Hovercam

In 2015, there are still faxes and full-sized newspapers, but no reporters: This hovering 'bot takes video, photos, and presumably never asks for a raise.

The Scenery Channel

Yes, we have HGTV today, but we don't have a window shade that displays a prettier view than what's really out there.

Thumb-Print Door Locks

In the real 2015, we have Smart Homes and key card-entry at hotels and work, but the only thumb-print door locks we see are still in the movies. Time-traveling Jennifer would be so relieved.

Garden Center

No matter how many times we ask our kitchen ceiling, "Fruit, please," there's no retractable fruit bowl!

Ortho-Lev

Is a portable, hovering orthopedic device really what our elderly back patients of today need? Yes, yes it is.

Dehydrated Pizza

We're sad we still have to make pizza the old-fashioned way, in a microwave instead of with a hydrator. With dehydrated pizzas so tiny, you would never, ever run out!
